Getting To and From Frankfurt Airport

Frankfurt Airport (FRA) lies about 12 km (7.5 miles) southwest of central Frankfurt, right at the Frankfurter Kreuz motorway junction, and it is one of the best-connected airports in Europe. Whichever way you like to travel — train, taxi, private transfer, ride-hailing, rental car or coach — FRA has a fast, clearly signposted option built into the terminal complex itself. Train (S-Bahn and ICE)

FRA has two railway stations of its own. The Regional Station beneath Terminal 1 puts you on the S-Bahn (lines S8 and S9) to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof in about 11–15 minutes for around €6–7, while the adjoining Long-Distance Station (Fernbahnhof) has direct ICE and IC trains to Cologne, Stuttgart, Munich and beyond — without ever going into the city. Taxi

Metered taxis wait around the clock at marked ranks outside arrivals at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. A ride to the city centre costs roughly €30–40 and takes 20–30 minutes, with no airport or night surcharge. Full fares and rank locations are in our Frankfurt Airport taxis guide.

Private Transfers

Pre-book a private transfer and a driver will meet you at arrivals with a name sign, help with your bags, and take you door-to-door for a fixed price — typically from around €45 for a standard car (up to three passengers). Ride-Hailing

Uber, Bolt and FreeNow all operate at FRA, picking up from designated ride-share points outside arrivals. Fares are broadly similar to a metered taxi and can rise with demand at peak times or during major trade fairs.

Car Rental

All the major agencies — Sixt, Avis, Hertz, Europcar and Enterprise — have desks in the rental-car centres at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, and the airport sits directly on the A3/A5 motorways. Shuttle Bus and Coaches

Free Sky Line trains and shuttle buses connect Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, several nearby hotels run their own shuttles, and long-distance coaches such as FlixBus depart from the coach station at car park P36. Details of all three are in our shuttle bus guide.

Which Option Should You Choose?

  • Fastest and cheapest into town: the S-Bahn to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof.
  • Continuing straight on to another German city: an ICE or IC from the airport's own Fernbahnhof — no need to enter Frankfurt at all.
  • Door-to-door with no planning: an official taxi from the rank.
  • Fixed price, groups or heavy luggage: a pre-booked private transfer.
  • Exploring beyond the city: a rental car from Terminal 1 or Terminal 3.
